Jack Doherty Joins Twitch After Permanent Ban from Kick for McLaren Crash

Doherty's move to Twitch raises questions about how long he will last on the platform

Controversial streamer Jack Doherty has switched to Twitch after being permanently banned from Kick for crashing his McLaren while distracted by his phone. The crash, which left his cameraman injured, drew heavy criticism and led to Kick taking decisive action against the 21-year-old. On October 11, Doherty made his Twitch debut with a brief five-minute stream, where he admitted feeling out of place without his Kick audience and asked viewers how to avoid getting banned on the new platform.

Doherty expressed hope of being unbanned from Kick but faces a significant roadblock—Kick co-owner Adin Ross has demanded $300,000 to lift the ban. Ross’s statement, made during an October stream, highlighted the financial and personal stakes involved, as he sarcastically encouraged Doherty to “go to Twitch and get banned” if he didn’t pay.

In the days following his ban, Doherty also went live on TikTok, asking for donations in a move that was widely mocked by social media users. Despite this backlash, he tried to make amends with his cameraman by surprising him with a luxury jet ski, compensating for the crash and forcing him to continue filming while injured.

Doherty's move to Twitch raises questions about how long he will last on the platform, given its stricter content guidelines compared to Kick. His behavior, which has made him infamous, may be difficult to contain under Twitch's moderation.

As Doherty plans more streams on Twitch, his ability to adapt to the platform’s rules will determine whether his transition is successful or if his controversial antics will lead to another ban.
