Instagram Expands Notes Feature to Reels and Posts
Instagram Notes, a temporary status-like feature, is expanding. Users can now leave Notes on Reels and grid posts, with comments appearing in bubbles that disappear after three days. These semi-private comments can be tailored to a curated list of close friends or mutual followers, and users can tag each other in these Notes, making them hidden comments for a smaller audience.
This feature enhances private interactions, allowing friends to leave Notes that appear like stickers on content, similar to direct messaging. This aims to streamline seeing friends' thoughts without scrolling through comments. However, the ability to leave unseen comments raises concerns about potential misuse, such as bullying or harassment. Meta spokesperson Christine Pai noted that users can disable the Notes feature on their content if preferred.

Twitch Reinstates Donald Trump's Channel
In a surprising move, Twitch has reinstated former President Donald Trump's channel after a three-year ban. A spokesperson for the platform stated, "We believe there is value in hearing from Presidential nominees directly, when possible." This decision comes as Trump is gearing up for the 2024 Presidential campaign, and it highlights the platform's commitment to providing a space for political discourse.
Trump's Twitch channel was originally banned due to violations of the platform's policies, but the reinstatement suggests a shift in how Twitch handles content from political figures. The return of Trump's channel will undoubtedly attract significant attention and spark discussions on free speech and the responsibilities of social media platforms. As the election season heats up, it will be interesting to see how this decision impacts the broader landscape of online political engagement.

Xbox Game Pass Prices Updated
Xbox Game Pass subscribers, heads up: the service has announced new pricing for its subscription tiers. Here are the updated prices:
Ultimate: $19.99 (previously $16.99)
Standard: $14.99 (now excludes Day One games)
PC: $11.99 (previously $9.99)
These price hikes may catch some users by surprise and could prompt reconsideration of their subscription plans. The removal of Day One games from the Standard tier is a notable change, likely to stir some reactions from the community. World Back Online After ‘Largest IT Outage in History’
A major tech outage that crippled computer systems worldwide on Friday is gradually easing after a botched software update for Microsoft Windows by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike was identified as the culprit. Described by experts as the largest IT outage in history, the disruption impacted airlines, banks, businesses, and healthcare services. The faulty update to CrowdStrike's Falcon Sensor software triggered widespread Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors, causing systems to crash globally. While a software patch has been deployed, full recovery is expected to take several days.
The air travel industry was severely affected, with over 5,000 flights canceled worldwide, forcing major airlines to switch to manual check-in processes. Healthcare providers also experienced significant disruptions, particularly in appointment scheduling systems and patient records. Businesses across various sectors are now grappling with backlogs. CrowdStrike's CEO George Kurtz has apologized for the error, promising a thorough investigation to prevent future incidents.
