Mark Zuckerberg Plans to Launch Twitch Channel to Stream His Favorite Game
Zuckerberg says he has been playing Civilization since middle school
Mark Zuckerberg may be on the verge of launching a Twitch channel, inspired by his favorite strategy game, Civilization. During a recent conversation with Pubity at Meta's annual Connect event in Menlo Park, California, the Meta CEO discussed the idea of streaming his gameplay on Twitch.
Zuckerberg revealed, “Priscilla looked at my Steam account the other day and she’s like, ‘What?! You’ve played this for more than a thousand hours.’” He expressed a desire to be the best player in the world, stating, “In terms of strategy games, the one that I’m more likely to want to be the best in the world at is Civilization.” He even hinted at a potential Twitch stream, saying, “I think at some point, I should do a Twitch stream of me playing with someone because I’m pretty convinced that I’m close to grandmaster status.”
His connection to Civilization runs deep, as Zuckerberg has been playing the game since middle school. He credits it as a significant influence on his journey to becoming an engineer. In fact, during a past speech, he reminisced about playing Civilization when he received his acceptance email from Harvard, saying, “How many of you remember exactly where you were when you got that email telling you you got into Harvard? I was playing the video game Civilization.”
Civilization was created in 1991 by Sid Meier and Bruce Shelley, challenging players to guide a civilization through history and build a lasting empire. The game has seen six versions released, with the seventh installment set to launch on February 11, 2025.
Although Zuckerberg does not yet have a Twitch channel, the release of his favorite game could serve as the perfect opportunity to kick off the IRL stream he teased.
