Rumble CEO Forecasts Twitch's Shutdown or Sale Within Two Years

Despite its popularity, Twitch has been described as a “zombie brand” by insiders at Amazon

Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski has made a bold prediction: he believes Twitch will either be “shut down” or sold off by Amazon within the next two years. Over the years, various platforms like Facebook Gaming and Mixer have tried to challenge Twitch’s dominance, but many have fallen short. Now, KICK, YouTube, and Rumble are among the contenders trying to grab a piece of the livestreaming market.

Despite its popularity, Twitch has been described as a “zombie brand” by insiders at Amazon. The platform reportedly struggles financially, losing money even while generating around $2 billion in revenue. Concerns about potential layoffs are also growing, leading to speculation about Twitch’s future.

Pavlovski took to Twitter on October 22 to share his prediction: “Amazon shuts down Twitch within 2 years or sells it. Probably sooner.” While he didn’t elaborate on his reasoning, his track record caught the attention of some fans. One pointed out that his previous predictions about media outlets closing often came true much sooner than expected.

“I like to give things a little buffer,” Pavlovski replied, referencing his earlier prediction about the Global Alliance for Responsible Media shutting down shortly before it actually did.

Despite its challenges, Twitch still holds a significant lead over its competitors, many of which are still working on features that Twitch has had for a while, like highlight clips and creator dashboards. However, platforms like KICK are innovating by allowing viewers to earn money while watching streams, which could give them an edge.

As the livestreaming landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see whether Pavlovski’s predictions about Twitch come to fruition.
