Twitch CEO Responds to Favoritism Claims After FaZe Lacy's Quick Unban

The controversy arose after Lacy’s account was compromised during a January 4 livestream

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has addressed accusations of "favoritism" following the swift unbanning of FaZe Lacy’s channel after it was hacked. The controversy arose after Lacy’s account was compromised during a January 4 livestream, with the hacker broadcasting inappropriate content that led to an immediate ban.

In a tweet shortly after the incident, Lacy explained the situation: “I am hacked, I have no access to my account and can’t end my stream. Working on it now sorry for anyone who is seeing this disgusting stuff.”

Fellow FaZe member Jasontheween quickly intervened, reportedly calling Clancy directly. Within just over 30 minutes, Lacy’s account was unbanned, sparking backlash from some Twitch users who accused the platform of favoritism due to the speed of the resolution.

Clancy responded to the criticism on X, clarifying his role in the incident. “For clarity, I did not do anything. Jason told me Lacy’s account had been hacked. I told him to get Lacy to contact his SPM, which Lacy was already doing. (Lacy was talking to them while Jason was talking to me),” he wrote.

He emphasized that Twitch’s moderation team was already addressing the issue before his involvement. “Twitch was already working to bring the stream down and then re-enable the account. So no special treatment from me,” Clancy stated.

The incident has reignited conversations about Twitch’s moderation processes and whether high-profile streamers receive preferential treatment.
