YouTube Premium Family Users Furious as Platform Hikes Prices to $40

Subscribers are outraged as YouTube Premium announces a massive price increase, pushing some plans to nearly $500 a year.

On November 7, 2024, YouTube Premium Family users received notifications of an impending price hike that has left many subscribers frustrated and upset. The price for the popular service will increase starting December 7, 2024, with some users facing significant hikes.

A Reddit screenshot revealed that the cost would rise from €22.99 ($25 USD) to €36.99 ($40 USD), meaning nearly $500 annually for access to ad-free content and other perks.

The price jump has sparked a wave of backlash from subscribers, with many expressing shock and anger at the new costs. “Are they nuts?” one user commented, while others questioned YouTube's "sense of reality" and expressed regret at their decision to subscribe.

In addition to the price hike, YouTube has begun testing a cheaper, limited version of Premium. This “lite” option offers fewer ads but still includes some ads, unlike the full ad-free experience. Meanwhile, YouTube continues its efforts to eliminate adblockers, with plans to crack down on third-party apps.
